Real Life in China

People attend college or university for many different reasons(for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge) Why do you think people attend college or university?

Nowadays, more and more young people realize that they have to attend university to change their life. Though many poor families will become even more poorer after they paid the high fee for university,this is the only way for the bottom level people to change their lives. That is mainly because without a college diploma you are nothing in China at present.Of course, it does not mean that you will be a big pot as though you are a bachelor. 

Firstly, attending university could help you to gain the ability to study by yourself. In China, if you only finished the study in senior high school, you will not have the self-study ability usually, because of the awkward teaching system in Chinese high school. The most important part in university life is to learn how to study by yourself. This is the first reason for many youths to attend university.    

Secondly, Bachelor is the base of many opportunity. More and more young people are throwed into labor market. Even diploma has become useless for many job opportunities. Bachelor is the first request for many offer. Only with bachelor, the employer will check whether you are capable for their jobs. Further more , as you have had a job in a company, background graduated from high level university will gain more promotion opportunity for you.  

Finally, Bachelor could protect you from discrimation in city. There are so many discrimation and bias in Chinese city. Without a bachelor, most of the young worker from country are called "peasant-worker" and they are rejected to have citizenship despite how long they work and live in city. Several years ago, When I only have a diploma, I found a job in a small city. I felt much prejudice from the government bureacy during the process that I settle down there. That is the main reason for me to attend university again for master.
